With its initial focus, specializing in the conceptual and preliminary phases of ship design, Advanced Marine Enterprises ensured its command position for the total design of ships and other naval architecture and marine engineering services. Drewry, President, Advanced Marine Enterprises sits at the forefront of total ship design, engineering, and program management services for the U.S. Navy, as one of only two firms providing these comprehensive services under a single contract with the Naval Sea Systems Command. With the acquisition of Advanced Marine by Nichols Research in 1996, Nichols Federal has gained a dominate position in this broad and complex field of ship design and naval engineering.

Advanced Marine has also diversified its business into services and products for commercial and government organizations in other industries, such as training simulators for marine applications and scientific and engineering software tools.
